About Our VolunteersPerspective gained through real-life lessons | | Christina Howard (left) and Polly Irish, Sojourner Place director of programs & operations | Christina Howard, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, found her way to Seattle after attending college in Chicago and became a full-time, live-in volunteer at Sojourner Place, a transitional house for women.
She left her stable, loving and supportive comfort zone of family and friends and entered the unfamiliar, staying there for a year in what was both a mentally and emotionally challenging experience.
Her stay at Sojourner Place, listening and spending time with the women there, confronted her conventional thinking and offered ?real life? lessons, Christina says.
The impact upon her was tremendous. ?Everything is brought into perspective. The stress I have in my life doesn?t come close to that of others, and I have decided to direct my energy towards women who really need my help. I am aware that I am in a position, thanks to my childhood, to be an anchor for those who really need it.?
